Vauvert Primary School

Be respectful. Be honest. Be the best you can be.

Foundation Stage Curriculum

The EYFS Framework sets the standards for learning, development and care for children from birth up to 5 years of age.

The principles which guide the Reception Team at Vauvert are grouped into four themes:

A Unique Child - every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self assured

Positive Relationships - children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or a key person

Enabling Environments - the environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children's development and learning

Learning and Development - children develop and learn in different ways and at different times; all areas of learning and development are equally important and inter-connected.

The Characteristics of Effective Learning are focused on throughout the year. These are:

Playing and Exploring- engagement

·         Finding out and exploring

·         Playing with what they know

·         Being willing to ‘have a go’

Active Learning- motivation

·         Being involved and concentrating

·         Keeping trying

·         Enjoying what they set out to do

Creating and Thinking Critically- thinking

·         Having their own ideas

·         Making links

·         Choosing ways to do things

Areas of Learning and Development

There are seven areas in which we support children to learn and develop.

These are:

● Personal, Social and Emotional Development

● Physical Development

● Communication and Language

● Literacy

● Mathematics

● Understanding the World

● Expressive Arts and Design

At Vauvert Reception, we aim to teach the children through a range of engaging and exciting topics which captivates and enthuses the children. We use the children’s interests and ideas to help support and guide our planning, to ensure that their learning is child led and they are at the centre of their learning.

Some of our many topics consist of:

All about me - finding out about their local community and comparing it to others

All about our wonderful world - learning how to care for our environment

All about space - using our imagination and finding out interesting facts

All about people who help us - learning about roles and responsibilities

We pride ourselves on our rich, stimulating environment which supports early language development and on our classroom provisions which support and challenge the children to become independent learners, preparing the children for a successful transition to Year 1 and beyond.
