Numeracy (Spring 2)
This half term we have been working hard doing addition and subtraction. We have been identifying missing numbers and number problems.
In Numeracy this week we have been creating bar models when adding and subtracting. Next week we will be measuring out ingredients, and learning about 2D and 3D shapes.
Last week in Year 1 we were learning to tell the time (o'clock) and sequencing the days of the week. This week we are doing addition and subtraction, and encouraging and supporting the children to use number lines to count on and count back. We are reinforcing our mathematical vocabulary related to addition and subtraction e.g. total, altogether, add, subtract, take away.
Next week (20.11.17) we will be doubling and halving. We will be using the numicon to support us doing practical activities.
Week commencing 27.11.17 we will be learning to count in two's and five's.
Well done Year 1, you have all had a great first half term back at school. We hope you all have a lovely half term.
We haven't sent home any spellings over half term so that all the children have a well earned rest.
Don't forget our school trip on the first day back!
PROBLEM SOLVING IN MATHS
The Children played a traffic light game in maths. They had to follow rules to get 3 counters of the same colour in a row. It was not as easy as they thought at first!
